First Steps to Strategic Planning Now
In these uncertain times, what are some first steps to strategic planning?
This interactive virtual session, geared towards development staff, executive directors and nonprofit leaders, will explore the following questions:
- What are the benefits of strategic planning?
- What are the steps to creating a strategic plan?
- In our current moment of uncertainty, what are some ways to do bite-sized strategic planning?
Participants will have the opportunity to meet in breakout groups to discuss benefits, challenges, and next steps. At the end of our session, you will have:
- A list of benefits of strategic planning to highlight the need for planning in your organization
- One or two strategic questions that your staff and board might discuss
- Some possible next steps you can take
Note that this will be a participatory conversation -- not a webinar -- so please come to the session with your camera on if possible and prepared to interact.

Dr. Renee Robin Ross is the founder of The Ross Collective, a consulting firm that designs and leads inclusive, participatory strategic planning and governance processes. Committed to racial equity, Dr. ROss supports organizations in practices that celebrate and amplify diverse voices and perspectives. Dr. Ross directs the CSUEB Nonprofit Management Certificate program and teaches strategic planning and board governnce for the program. She is a Board members and Governance Chair of the Alliance for Nonprofit Management.

Venue: This social event will be held on a virtual Zoom. Final details will be sent to all registrants the evening before the event, 10/13 by 8 PM from DER's Administrative Assistant. A reminder will be sent to each registrant the morning of our panel to each registrant's email address from email@example.com.
